🚀 Fuel for the Soul: Why It’s Worth Having Dreams (Even the "Silly" Ones)

From the Mining Colony to the Stars: A Journey of Nostalgia, Ambition, and the Magic of Small Victories.

By Piotr NowakPublished about 4 hours ago 4 min read

Every one of us carries a sort of internal engine. It’s the mechanism that pushes us forward when the alarm clock rings in the morning and makes the gray reality of daily life burst into color. That fuel is dreams. 💭 Some people are ashamed to talk about them, thinking they are childish or unrealistic. Others divide them into "serious" and "trivial." But I believe that distinction is meaningless. A dream is a dream—whether it’s about a mission to Mars or simply firing up an old game on a quiet weekend. 🌌

Today, I want to take you on a journey through my own desires. From the smallest, most sentimental ones, to those that reach for the stars. ✨

🎮 Back to the Colony: Nostalgia That Keeps You Going

Let’s start around the year 2000. Do you remember that vibe? "Dial-up" internet, floppy disks, and gaming magazines that we read from cover to cover. In 2001, the king of RPGs arrived—a game that captured my heart forever: Gothic. ⚔️ It was a revolution. The freedom to choose your path, a brutal but fascinating world, and that feeling that starting from nothing—as a mere "convict"—you could become someone who runs the entire Mining Colony. 🏰

A small but significant dream of mine that is becoming a reality right now is returning to that world. Sure, the Gothic Remake is out, but I have something else in mind. I remember 2008—back then, my internet was so slow that downloading anything substantial was practically a miracle. I dreamed of playing the legendary fan-made expansion: "Mroczne Tajemnice" (Dark Mysteries). 🌑 Back then, it was out of my reach. Today? I’m just finishing the download. It’s a dream deferred by over fifteen years, but it tastes just as good. Sometimes, fulfilling these simple plans brings the purest, most childlike joy. 🕹️

🕹️ That Time I Sold My Console to Save a Dream

The next story on my list is... well, specific. Everyone has done something in life that looked illogical from the outside. I was the owner of a PlayStation 4 for exactly one day. 😅 I bought it off a friend who desperately needed cash for a bicycle. I already had one goal in mind: Mass Effect: Andromeda. 🌌

Remember Commander Shepard? Those epic interplanetary missions, the feeling that the fate of the galaxy rested in your hands? I loved that universe. But as I held that console, I felt something strange. I decided it wasn't the "right" moment yet. I wanted to truly earn that game, to experience it under perfect conditions, not in a rush. The next day, I sold the PS4 to a CEX store at a financial loss. Silly? Maybe. 🤷‍♂️ But for me, it was an act of "freezing" a dream. I knew that one day I’d buy a PS5, and then, with a clear head, I’d head for Andromeda. That dream is still waiting on the shelf, and I know that when the moment comes, the satisfaction will be immense. 🌠

🏎️ Speed and History: The Toyota MR2 and the Mysteries of the Sands

Let’s move on to things that are a bit harder to achieve, but still realistic. On my list, the Toyota MR2 sits proudly. 🚗 This agile, fast car has always caught my eye. But my dream isn't just to have it sitting in a garage. I want to get behind the wheel, smell the burnt rubber on a race track, and floor the gas pedal to see what this machine can really do in a controlled environment. It’s a dream of freedom and adrenaline! 🔥💨

And speaking of travel—Egypt. 🏺 It’s a classic, but in my case, it’s heavily influenced by the pop culture I grew up with. Star Trek, Stargate—these are what shaped my imagination. 🛸 When I look at the pyramids and the Sphinx, my head tells me that the official version of history is just the tip of the iceberg. Is it possible that people back then built something so perfect without external help? Were the pyramids ancient landing pads for a civilization that visited us? 👽 I want to stand there, take a photo next to the Sphinx, and feel that energy for myself. I even dream of—quite literally—"kissing the Sphinx on the tip of his nose." 🇪🇬🏜️

👨‍🚀 The Final Frontier: Gothic in Zero Gravity

My boldest dream? Space. 🌍 Technology is moving forward, and I believe that within my lifetime, suborbital flights will become accessible to "ordinary" people, even if they still require a significant financial backing. I have a vision that combines all my passions into one: I want to fly into outer space, sit down with my laptop, and... fire up the original Gothic while looking out the window at the blue planet. 🛰️ Combining the gritty atmosphere of the Penal Colony with the infinite reach of the universe. That would be the ultimate way to bring my journey full circle. 🌌💻

💰 Dreams Require Sweat (and Piggy Banks)

It’s easy to talk about dreams; it’s harder to realize them. But the process of fulfilling them is what gives our lives meaning. Right now, my life revolves around two goals. The first is right here, right now—installing Gothic. 💿 The second is long-term. I have a "can" at home—a piggy bank that is slowly filling up thanks to my extra work in gardening. 🌻

Every zloty earned, every bit of savings, brings me closer to the moment I take my woman on a vacation to Egypt. ✈️❤️ Dreams make working in the garden more than just physical labor; they turn it into a step toward the pyramids. Without them, life becomes empty, hollow, and mechanical. Even the smallest dreams have immense value because they are proof that we still want something more from life. 🪴💪

What about you? What dreams are you hiding in your "piggy bank"? Is it an old game, a new console, or a trip to the end of the world? Let me know in the comments—sharing a dream is the first step toward making it real! 👇💬
