A poem

By Sara WilsonPublished about 6 hours ago β€’ Updated about 6 hours ago β€’ 1 min read

We started small with scraped up knees

and secrets whispered low

horror movies, snacks, and sleep overs

we watched each other grow

πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œ

We were just two kids on Juniper Street

mapping out the Barstow sun

before we knew how hard the world

could break what we'd begun

πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œ

When heavy burdens weighed me down

and I hid the marks of pain

You were the first to see the truth

standing with me in the rain

πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œ

From the rush of every silly crush

to the weight of a wedding gown

you were the hand that held me up

when the world was falling down

πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œ

Through the magic of the "I do" vows

through pregnancy and toddler years

Our silly late night kitchen talks

and the salt of a thousand tears

πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œ

I remember days the laughter died

when our secrets felt like lead

We always held each other's hands

when our hardest truths were said

πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œ

The road's been long and sometimes cracked

with battles we had to face

But through the kids and through the tears

we found a steady pace

πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œ

Friends have faded like old photographs

just names from a distant past

but we're the ones who didn't break

The ones who were built to last

πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œ

When the world gets loud and cold

or the bad news starts to creep

I think of us and growing up

and the promises we keep

πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œ

So let the world keep spinning fast

Let the days turn into years

As long as we have each other, Noel

We have nothing left to fear
