Don't Forget Your Wings

A Poem. Sort of

If you were a bird listening to humans talk you would realize they only chirp in mockery of what human rambling sounds like.

They speak perfect English. You just have to whisper to get a response. (Really...try it out)

Adulthood is a lie created entirely by your ego. And before you object....

....God told me.

I met her in a dream.

She was little girl.

Sitting cross-legged on the floor.

Surrounded by colored blocks.

Sublime.

Courteous.

All-knowing.

A bit tired perhaps.

Matching shapes to shapes. Colors to colors.

Red with red. Circle with circle. Star with star.

All with patience. Attention to detail. And care.

She didn't look at me. Not once. But I understood.

I understood I wasn't being ignored. I simply wasn't the point.

In the soft knock of wood against wood, I watched galaxies find their place. I saw lives intersect and cross in geometric patterns.

Which is when she said:

"Adulthood is something you agree to. Little by little. Fear by fear. A version of your imagination that talks far more than it listens convinces you to do the same.

You begin to prioritize certainty over curiosity.

You replace questions with conclusions.

No time for exploration. Only control.

Control.

You call this maturity.

It is not maturity.

It is adaptation to fear.

I made you in my image. A child. With a perfect mind. A mind that wonders.

A mind that does not judge.

A mind that does not grudge. A mind that learns, endlessly.

A mind optimized for joy, with no quantifiable limitations. Perfect. State-of-the-art.

Humans do not fly.

Not because they are incapable. But because they are conditioned.

They learn to simulate limitation.

Even in the absence of it.

Flight requires a mind that does not confuse social agreement, with physical law."
