Thick Skin
Elephants in chains training for rides or photos bullhooks prodding neck author photo _ Tanzania Author Note: Elephants are sentient beings who live in families. Humans kill them for ivory and skin and feet to be made into tables. Humans steal their babies and chain them, alone, stretched out to break their spirit. They prod them with bullhooks or burn them, starve them to get them to follow orders. Some religions paint them and parade them for religious ceremonies. Humans want to make money from them through photo opportunities and rides. Sometimes, they prod a stick sideways into their sensitive trunk and give them a paintbrush to sell the painting (it is painful). No care is taken for their feet or hide or feelings. Don't help cruelty to continue to the gentle elephant. Mostly, it is Asian elephants, but African ones are also captured. We are slowly ending animal circuses.

WAR by Bob Woodward
WAR (2024) by Bob Woodward begins with a prologue explaining how his Watergate reporting partner, Carl Bernstein, invited him to join him at a party in 1989. "Trump is here," Bernstein said, telling him it was a fun party and he enjoyed the conversation with Trump. Woodward's conversations at the party quoted Trump as saying he was a great loyalist and that in New York City when inspectors gave him violations (unfounded in his mind on his perfect buildings) for his properties, he would say F**k you, and not pay. He told Woodard it is similar to the Mob; they continue returning for more once you pay.

The Florida Project_movie review
The Florida Project, released in 2017, stars Brooklynn Prince, born in 2010, as Mooney, Bria Vinaite as Halley, and Willem Dafoe as Bobby, a motel manager. The title is a nod to what the theme park was originally called before becoming famous.

Union Square Concert
lighted portals in concrete walls show humans floating within, shadowed by sheer drapes rippling in a soft night breeze . they ruffle and billow around human heads like cotton puffs . eyes occasionally peek out the glass panes, pushing aside the white veils. music drifts upward , and wafts above the avenue , a saxophone brewing blended notes , an impromptu concert in Union Square.

Hoar Frost and Husky
Author Note: One of winter's beauties is the intricate crystals--called hoarfrost--that form on branches, wires, poles, and other things. Hoarfrost could be called a wintertime cousin to summer's dew. It forms when water vapor in the air contacts solid surfaces that are already below freezing point. Immediately on contact, ice crystals form, and the ice continues to grow as more water vapor is frozen. The Arctic frequently has perfect conditions.
