Black Friday: The facts behind the day after Thanksgiving
Black Friday: The traditional definitions "Black Friday" took off during the early 1980s and spread throughout the United States with the "red to black" backstory. The tale that was told was that retailers traditionally operated "in the red" or at a financial loss between January and November of each year and went "in the black" by earning their profit during the holiday season. The day after Thanksgiving began the official Christmas shopping season and retailers offered a lot of big sales.

What Quint Teaches Us About Bravery
THE SCAR GAME It’s a lull between attacks. Quint, Hooper and Brody are sitting around the table in the tiny mess of the Orca. It’s just after the golden hour, that deep blue period when the sky is the same color as the ocean and you feel like you're suspended in sapphire. In the distance, we hear whale song.

Tsavorites: The Definitive Edge of Brilliance
Beautiful Tsavorites are stepping into the spotlight as one of the perfect gemstones for modern jewelry trends with its vivid green color that rivals the magnificent Emeralds. Because of its brilliance and shine, the grassy-green gemstone is getting popular among jewelry designers. So, now that the Tsavorite is finally getting all the attention it deserves. Today, Tsavorites are one of the most expensive garnets available in the international market. Its value may go as high as up to $8,000 per carat at the top retail end, putting them in the highest price category in secondary gems, especially for stones weighing a few carats. World-class stones are those that weigh over 20 carats, while most of the gemstones weigh less than 3 carats. A Tsavorite that weighs over 5 carats is extremely rare and hard to find. On the hardness scale, Tsavorite sits at 7, which means it is quite durable for daily wear. It has a nice shine and is clear to translucent with no pleochroism. It is a silica-containing mineral with a green hue due to the presence of vanadium and chromium oxide.

Dave Chappelle and Comedy on Trial — My Opinion
I’ve watched as the controversy swirling around comedian Dave Chappelle’s Netflix special “ The Closer” as its built into a somewhat of a fever pitch in the past few weeks. Let me first say I fully understand and have compassion for the suffering of others or their feeling of being marginalized, that being said, and without even mentioning the jokes or groups of people that are more than just offended by it, but want Dave Chappelle to pay, to disappear for his remarks. Ok, I find this a somewhat ludicrous position at face value , but I also find it deeply disturbing that this sort of outrage creates a fear for all comedians to create and comment through the jokes in their comedy routines on anything that may offend anyone.

Be Careful When Selecting Cover Art For Your Stories!
I’ve produced enough written material during these past few months to finally feel comfortable calling myself a writer. Considering that I've made around $140 from reads, bonuses and tips since joining Vocal four months ago, I can even call myself a “professional writer”. I’m plotting a novel and am participating in National Novel Writer’s Month (NaNoWriMo) in November, and hope to be a published novelist one day.

The Truth About Awakening vs. Turning
[Author's Note: At University (in the early 2000's), I took a Sociology class on the myth and symbolism of Witchcraft, and as part of the class, I ended up writing a paper on the mythology and folklore of vampires, which then led me into a paid gig writing vampire articles for a while. So I've decided to share these articles of vampire myth and folklore here ~ C]

Where did that saying come from?
Growing up in Brooklyn, NY in the 1980s and 90s, I was exposed to a lot of old school sayings or terms that I didn't know the meaning of, like calling a tank top, a 'wife beater'. Until very recently some folks in my family still referred to it as such. Looking back now, I can't imagine a 9-year old girl today, referring to her father's tank top as a wife beater! Ay dios mio!

What do you do for Halloween?
The nights are drawing in, the weather is getting colder and the leaves are falling from the trees. As we reluctantly switch on our heating, we look forward to the end of October, to Halloween and the start of a programme of winter festivities.

12 Mandela Effects to Confuse All
The Mandela Effect is a false memory phenomenon. This was first identified by a paranormal researcher, Fiona Broome. The effect is called the Mandela effect after President Mandela. Many people identified that they had been told Madela died in prison in the 1980s. It was a false memory shared by many people. Some have even stated that they believe it is a reality in an alternative universe, that mixes with ours.
