The Impact of Tarkov’s Most Controversial Addition
(Intro) Tarkov has had a large variety of additions to the game that depending on who you asked, were either good for the game, or controversial at best. EFT is an immersive extraction shooter and from the get-go, it always wanted to lean into the difficulty and the grittiness that comes from being in the middle of a fictional war-torn city. But sometimes, they perhaps leaned into this a little too much; and that was reflected in both major and minor additions to the game that ultimately changed how the community both played and talked about it as a whole. Whether it was mechanical, weapons, balance, and anything else in between there have been moments where the community collectively looked at what was being added and was worried it might negatively impact the game, so much that it would ruin the game and drive players away. Today, we’re going to break down a variety of things that have been put into EFT, see what the initial reaction was like and then how much of an impact these changes had on the game as time went on.

What Needs to be Fixed for Tarkov’s 1.0 Launch
(Intro) Tarkov’s 1.0 launch is going to happen by the end of this year, and there is a lot that BSG needs to do to prepare for that day, whenever it might happen. We recently had a livestream with the team, and they showcased their roadmap for this year, and what their goals and intentions are. Primarily optimizations, fixes and stability to prepare for launch, and not that many new mechanics or major additions to the game before launch. And while what we saw looks to be very promising if it all goes well, there is still plenty to do that maybe didn’t make it to the list. At the end of the day, while BSG is super focused on preparing for 1.0, there is a lot that needs to be taken care of now more than ever. So, today I wanted to go over what needs to be fixed before Tarkov goes 1.0. There will be some overlap with the roadmap because I’ve had this initial idea written down before that livestream, but ultimately what the community wants and what BSG hopes to get done before their officially launch the game is in line, for the most part. So, what does BSG need to address before the game goes 1.0?

In Defense of 'Pokémon' Genwunners
As described by Know Your Meme, "Genwunner is a pejorative term used within the Pokémon fandom to describe those who only appreciate the first-generation of video games for GameBoy, namely Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow, and tend to bash the sequel titles and monsters in the franchise." Under this definition, I wouldn't be a genwunner because even though I think the first generation of Pokémon is the best, I still appreciate the other games. However, I don't find it unreasonable to prefer the first generation to the rest of the series.

What Makes a Tarkov Casual?
(Intro) Tarkov is known to be an incredibly difficult and complex game if you’ve never played it before. It goes out of its way to feel obtuse, unorthodox, but most importantly, unique when compared to many other games in the same genre or sphere. While it was not the first extraction shooter ever created, it certainly was the first one to nail down the formula correctly. Which is why it has grown so popular over the years. But what has become a by-product of this, is the general player skill level has slowly risen overtime. You go back even just five years ago; people were not generally as knowledgeable or skillful at the game as they are now. There was a decent chunk of the player base who had no idea what they were doing, myself included. The population playing the game was much smaller, so it makes sense that people were kind of just meandering around EFT trying to figure it out as best they can. At one point or another, anyone who plays EFT will be considered a casual. But this term and its definition has somewhat changed as time has gone on. Is a Tarkov casual someone who doesn’t play a lot? How much do they know about the game? Can they hold their own in PvP engagements? People will have their own definition of what a casual is in EFT, and today, our goal is to break this term down and figure out where people might place themselves if asked the question: what makes a casual in EFT?

Instantly Reloading Off Hand Weapons Needs to Go
(Intro) Tarkov has a myriad of different mechanics in the game that you can take advantage of. Many intentional and deliberate; and some, potentially not as much. For how complex EFT can be sometimes, it makes sense that there may be some interactions or opportunities not meant to work the way they do or are just not supposed to be in the game at all that can be utilized if you know about them. And one of them has been in the game for almost its entire life. Which is the ability to quickly and instantly reload your offhand weapon through some menuing while your inventory is open. It’s never been actually talked about by BSG if this gimmick is intentional or not, but it hasn’t stopped people from using it a lot over the years. I’ve personally known about it for a while and have found myself using it when the circumstances call for it. But a mechanic like this that may not be intentional begs some questions: should it be removed from the game? Does make the experience in EFT worse because it exists? Does removing stuff like this make the game less interesting as a whole? These are some good questions to ask, and hopefully by the end, we will answer them in a way that makes sense and can lead to a nuanced conversations bout mechanics like this both in EFT but also video games as a whole.

We’re Almost There... (April TarkovTV & Reflection)
(Intro) Nikita and BSG hosted a TarkovTV livestream on the eighteenth of April, and with it they went over what could potentially be the final roadmap before the game goes 1.0. Tons of updates, optimizations, quality of life improvements, and additions being brought in specifically from community feedback. Every month has something to look forward too which is incredibly exciting; it’s been a long time since I have been actively looking forward to updates for this game, knowing the fact that by the end of this year, we might be playing a full release version of Escape From Tarkov. Whatever that looks like. Either way, there is a lot to go over with this podcast, so let’s quickly break down all the changes and then just talk about this roadmap and the entire life of EFT as a whole.
